Community / Commercial / Adaptive Re-Use

Kitty’s Launderette is a social business and worker-community cooperative rooted in the local area. It carries on the legacy of Kitty Wilkinson, the pioneer behind the UK’s first public wash house. The launderette provides affordable and ecological laundry and dry-cleaning services and is a welcoming space for a variety of social and creative activities. The scheme also includes a multi-use event space and workshop at ground floor with 3 flats at first floor.

We helped the Client develop their ideas from feasibility through to construction stage and supported them during the planning and building control processes. The project was funded via a Kickstarter campaign and Power to Change funding. The launderette phase was completed in May 2019.

Undertaken as Associate Architect at LJ Architects Ltd.
