Residential / Commercial / Adaptive Re-Use
The scheme comprised of the redevelopment and extension of a collection of ancillary structures to enable the Clients to downsize and develop their wood working business. The ground floor workshop spaces were combined to provide more work and storage areas as well as improved welfare facilities. At first floor, the workshops were extended to a full first floor storey height to achieve a 1-bedroom 2-person open plan maisonette flat with a terrace overlooking the existing courtyard garden. The existing interface distances necessitated careful space planning and an inventive elevation treatment. As a self-build project, the choice of structure and materials reflected the skills and experience of the Clients as well as the local context.
Full planning permission was obtained in 2018. Building Regulations information was completed in 2019.
