Residential / Commercial / Adaptive Re-Use

Owned by the same family for over 100 years, the Clients wanted to redevelop the farmhouse to provide B&B guesthouse accommodation. Envisaged as a ‘lifestyle business’ the brief asked for a balance between guest and private accommodation that capitalised on the rural and riverside context.

Having been extended in an ad hoc manner during the working life of the farm, the internal layout was rationalised in combination with carefully considered extensions. New interventions also included a bridge and summerhouse within the extensive garden. The Clients embraced renewable technologies (air source heat pump and a floor standing solar array) and also sought to improve the buildings thermal performance beyond building regulations requirements.

Full planning permission was obtained in 2014. Undertaken as a self-build project, Willma Works provided support during the planning, building regulations and construction phases. The works were completed in 2020.
